Promises at Indigo Bay by Ellyn Oaksmith

The Vatican Conspiracy by Peter Hogenkamp

Talk about a real gripping thriller.

The Vatican conspiracy was a nonstop read for me. From the first page I just couldn’t put it down.

I mean, spies and intricate suspenseful moments where a priest is our main hero and a heroine that keeps him on his toes, it’s more than I have expected from this story.

Full of intrigue, fast-paced moments and twists that won’t stop, kept me on the edge throughout the book with each page turned and I honestly can’t wait for the next books in the series because the author has set the bar high with this new must read series.

🌟🌟🌟🌟

Talk about taking risky chances.

Once again , Alex Kane has taken me on a ride with another gripping thriller where the heroines are not your usual female characters and the underground life of London comes up and front in this story.

if you like a suspenseful novel with an unusual setting, this book is for you.

To coach a killer by Victoria Laurie

Description

Soaking up a luxurious new chapter alongside her saucy bestie, Cat Cooper plans on emerging as the premier life coach in East Hampton by summertime. All she has to do is survive an offseason replete with desolate beaches, slow business, and murder . . .

As the Hamptons drags through early spring, Cat’s shot at becoming the toast of the town in time for Memorial Day is dwindling—and fast. The only client she can find has been housebound for decades and claims to be the victim of a devasting curse. Then there’s the matter of Detective Shepherd’s intense jealousy over Maks Grinkov, the handsome bad boy who approaches Cat with an unusual offer she can’t stop thinking about. Havoc finally breaks loose when a string of murders rocks the coastal community, landing Maks on the hook as the culprit . . .

While the body count rises, Cat goes from life coaching to sleuthing for the truth about Maks’s less-than-wholesome background. But after digging deeper, she questions if Detective Shepherd had an unwitting hand in a related homicide case after tangling with the wrong people. With a storm approaching shore and no one to trust, Cat and her sharp-tongued best friend, Gilley, must solve a client’s curse and a series of violent deaths before a killer sends them all sailing to their doom . . .

🌟🌟🌟🌟

I will start with saying that this book was so good and unexpected in so many ways.

It's great written and the characters are so well fleshed that i want to be her friend in real life. As for the villain in the story, the author managed to trick me into liking him a lot, without even knowing because his way of doing things and the psychological level games he played are really great and challenging on all levels that made it hard not to fall for it.

What i didn't like? The cover! I just can't stand the cartoonish ones and more so because i know that many readers like me will judge a book by its cover and it's a shame it this story goes not chosen because of that small but decisive element.

All my opinions are my own. Arc provided by the publisher through Netgalley

Not your #lovestory by Sonia Hartl

Description

#PlaneBae meets Gilmore Girls in this hilarious and heartfelt contemporary about the addictiveness of fame and the harsh realities of going viral in a digital world.

When Macy Evens meets a boy named Eric, she's smitten but not head-over-heels. He's funny but also kind of a jerk. They hit it off, though she never gets his number, so Macy's sure she'll never see him again. Until she finds out a stranger witnessed their supposed "meet cute" and live tweeted it to a captive online audience.

What started as an innocent thread gained retweets, until now, Macy and Eric are a viral sensation. Her YouTube channel has never been more popular, but the masses aren't clicking her subscribe button for reviews of old VHS tapes. They only care about her not-actually-a-relationship with Eric. While he's more than happy to milk his newfound fame, Macy is worried about how this unwanted attention could impact her real relationships-especially with the shy boy next-door, Paxton, who she's actually developing feelings for.

With Macy's faux-romance going viral, the whole world is watching to see what she does next. And so is she.

Not your #lovestory is indeed a sweet love story about meet cute and how social media can influence the lives of the ones implicated in it.

There are much more deep feelings and discussions in here, much more than one is expecting and while the cover and blurb is setting up for an easy read, this is not the case.

The characters are well described and i enjoyed it overall but maybe i wanted a bit more from the actual romance and how that develops into something more steady and beautiful for the future.

The storm by Amanda Jennings

 Description

‘Warm-hearted, darkly atmospheric and wholly addictive' Lucy Atkins'A brilliant book. Gripping, intelligent, and beautifully written' Cass Green‘Vivid and evocative’ Lucy Dawson‘A chilling, atmospheric and addictive tale of the abuse simmering within a seemingly perfect marriage’ Roz Watkins

Doesn't every marriage have a dark side?

To the outside world Hannah married the perfect man. Behind the closed doors of their imposing home it’s a very different story. Nathan controls everything Hannah does. He chooses her clothes, checks her receipts, and keeps her passport locked away. But why does she let him? Years before, in the midst of a relentless storm, the tragic events of one night changed everything. And Hannah has been living with the consequences ever since. Keeping Nathan happy. Doing as she’s told.

But the past is about to catch up with them.

Set against the unforgiving backdrop of a Cornish fishing port in the ‘90s, this is a devastating exploration of the power of coercive control in a marriage where nothing is quite as it seems…

Praise for The Storm:

‘The Storm is an evocative story of coercive control and the decisions – often disastrous – that we make in order to protect the ones we love. Amanda Jennings is a fantastic storyteller and she’s at her very best here: warm-hearted, darkly atmospheric, and wholly addictive' Lucy Atkins

‘A brilliant book. Gripping, intelligent, and beautifully written’ Cass Green

‘Vivid and evocative, the beautifully drawn characters and Cornish setting will linger in your mind long after you’ve turned the final page of The Storm’ Lucy Dawson

‘Really enjoyed The Storm by Amanda Jennings – a chilling, atmospheric and addictive tale of secrets, lies, and the abuse simmering within a seemingly perfect marriage’ Roz Watkins

'I was blown away by its brilliance. It's full of clutch-you-by-the-throat menace, fantastically drawn characters and a twist that made me swear out loud. I loved it!' Michelle Davies

‘I have loved every single one of Amanda Jennings’s books, but The Storm is just perfect – deeply, darkly unsettling, evocative, nostalgic and filled with tragic love. Do not miss this one’ Susi Holiday

Perfect life, perfect house and perfect family, no? One can never know what actually happens behind the closed doors, and many times , the truth is unsetting.

Firstly, i want to go visit all the beautiful places where this story is plotted because the author has a magical way with her words to draw you in a place of such beautiful scenarios that you will never want to leave.

The story tackles a lot of topics that may trigger some readers and it's definitely not a case of love triangle, but a case of living in fear and abusive relationship because she though is the right way to pay for a past mistake. The husband is so controlling and will always decide what she wears or where she goes, who she can see, so that's a hard part of the book to read because , in all honestly, we all know these kind of men are real but , in fiction i try to stay away of these characters.

The story is beautifully written but i was put off by the plot overall as i stated beforehand why.

I'm sure i'm not the only one when i say that i pick up a book just because the description was so tempting and was hopeful for a great time altogether, but i was so lost while reading this book.

There are characters that i liked and the writing is very good, but i couldn't get into the story at all.

I was confused because of the then and now timeframe and so many things that i wanted to add up, to make more sense so i can put the pieces of the puzzle together , but it was just hard to do so.

And i hate when i have to put a book down and pick it up at a later time just because maybe that time i will see everything with other eyes , but that's not the case at all.

Maybe other people will enjoy it more, unfortunately it wasn't for me.

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley.

As a mother, it's hard to overcome the death of your only child and Cassie is no exception here. Her husband is supportive in every possible way but there's not much he can actually do in reality. Then comes an unexpected twist when a young woman with a baby appear at their doorsteps pretending that she's Josh's wife and his baby. Of course that she takes then in even doubting Kim as she never heard of her , let alone knowing she's a grandmother now. And now it's when the story gets more interesting because , with the new girlfriend appearance, there a mysterious trail of letters in her postmail every so often and that swifts the whole plot to another level.
I've heard great things about the author's books and even if it's just the first for me, overall it was a gripping story but way too predictable for my liking.

Many thanks to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley. My opinions are my own.

Once two sisters by Sarah Warburton

DESCRIPTION

Perfect for fans of Alafair Burke and Megan Collins, Sarah Warburton’s debut novel that explores the dangerous bond between sisters.

When her sister goes missing, Zoe assumes it’s just another one of her estranged sibling’s stunts--but the danger is all too real.

Zoe Hallett and her sister, Ava, are the precocious offspring of two pioneering scientists, but the sisters have been estranged for years. When Zoe reads a news story about Ava’s mysterious disappearance, she assumes it’s just another of her sister’s twisted fictions, designed to blame Zoe and destroy the peaceful life she’s created with her husband and beautiful stepdaughter in Houston. But Zoe’s email is hacked to send threatening messages to Ava--and a more sinister picture begins to emerge.

Zoe returns to her home state of Virginia to prove her innocence to the authorities, to her parents, and to Glenn, her ex-boyfriend and current brother-in-law. For the first time, Zoe begins to believe Ava is in grave danger, and when Glenn catches her searching for clues in Ava’s home, she looks guiltier than ever--but maybe Glenn is not all he seems.

The clues Zoe finds point to a bizarre link between Ava’s disappearance and her mother’s “research”. Is there a secret someone is trying to protect? And would someone be willing to kill to protect it? As her sister’s life hangs in the balance, Zoe draws on hidden reserves of strength and hope to save the sister she never thought she loved

⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I honestly don’t even know how to review this book without spoilers because there’s so much going on here that can’t be discussed with revealing details.

The story talks about Teo sister that don’t have a “good” relationship because one turns out to be the bad sister and one is the good sister that has to run away and change her life completely after so many years of suffering all the injustices from her sister.

The parents play a big part here as they aren’t the normal kind of couple due to their job and the sisters are left more or less to find their own way into this life.

Nothing to suspenseful or twisted, quite predictable in many moments but a good story overall.

The wish list is a laugh out loud , fun and light read , perfect for the lazy sunday afternoon.

The main character is a librarian that has to make a wish list for how the perfect man would look like and , surprise! She actually finds someone very similar but is he really The One?

There's a big mixed cast of characters here and each one adds something good to the overall story, from her half sisters to her step mother and let's not forget Marmelade, her cat.

A real page turner indeed.

A hot, protective and invested detective, a stubborn but strong and lovely heroine, add some wild animals and the rescue mission full of suspense and dangerous situation, and you've got the perfect recipe for a romantic suspense and a wildlife plot that i haven't had the chance to read much.

Apart from the great writing that kept me invested at all times, the emotions and feelings where felt on the page with each interaction and mindful monologue. Real chemistry? Maybe not so much but that hasn't deter me to really enjoy this well deserved happily ever after that my romantic heart needs so much every now and then.

Under pressure by Robert Pobi

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

City of Windows was one of my favorite crime thriller last year and with Under Pressure, i could feel the pressure of keeping up with the hype and my enjoyment for the series.

I can only say that there's no pressure at all because i am just in love with Dr Lucas Page and his character. Somehow, the author managed to make him even more appealing and interesting, more like a superman and indestructible , especially in a certain scene that made me think at Robocop actually :))

Same great writing that keeps you entangled in the pages of this fast paced, suspenseful , twisted thriller that many readers will enjoy for sure.

I can't wait to see what Pobi lays up next for Lucas and his eccentric personality.

A favor for a favor by Nat Chelloni

 Are you a mood reader?

I definitely am and always switching between he genres.

That’s how I stub on this dark mafia romance on my hunt for something new on Kindle Unlimited.

I love it so much and the fact that it’s a debut novel, made me think that this author is a must read and someone to look up in the future because this book is just perfect for the lovers of the genre and I highly recommend it.

Julia is a beautiful young widow that left her background in the past but one night that past collide with her present and everything changes in a moment.

Dom is the sexy, alpha character that has a soft heart under that rough armour of a mafia lider that wants to change the history and won’t stop until he’ll have what his heart wanted for so many years.

It’s such a beautiful written story, with interesting characters and so many suspenseful twists, steamy scenes and much more feelings and emotions than you can expect.

Give it a try and fall in love with this surprising story.
